A Lovely Spring

Ah, the month of May in the Midwest. I'm lovin' all the tulips, dandelions, new shades of green, birds singing and knowing it's almost flip-flop season! Sadly, many of my friends (and clients) aren't sharing my joy. Spring is the enemy, dressed in lovely colors and smelling sweet, also known as Allergy Season.

Unfortunately, there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution to assist in your defense, but tuning up gut health, adding a few anti-allergy foods to your diet, drinking even more water, perhaps some herbal tea and a probiotic, could up your game a bit... maybe make you want to come outside and play!?

According to one of my favorite beauty nutrition experts, Jolene Hart, you may want to consider adding some ginger (histamine blocker/gut health supporter/anti-inflammatory), watercress (super-potent antioxidant/antihistamine), local honey or bee pollen (helps develop a higher tolerance to pollen and inhibit mast cells that initiate allergic reactions), apples (contain quercetin - a natural antihistamine photochemical), and turmeric (anti-inflammatory) to your diet. Ginger is delicious in tea or mixed up in a stir-fry along with your watercress and turmeric. Local apples aren't around yet, but there are still some yummy choices. Tart apples drizzled with a bit of honey and cinnamon make a fabulous snack.  Use that cinnamon honey in your morning coffee for a special wake-up treat, too!

My favorite herbalist has a wonderful organic, herbal tea blend that I highly recommend. It's called It's Seasonal and supports respiratory and digestive function, a healthy immune response , and it calms the nerves. Fennel, nettle, peppermint, lemongrass, spearmint, calendula, red clover, lavender and stevia are a delicious combination - hot or iced. If you live near by, stop by Moondrop Herbals and pick some up, otherwise, please check her website at www.moondropherbals.com) - you won't be sorry.  (She also sells a lovely herbal eye pillow that is perfect for those achey sinuses and puffy eyes!)

Lastly, as I preach to everyone, with or without allergy issues, drink. more. water. If you do suffer allergy symptoms, the constant sneezing and blowing your nose can result in dehydration, leading to headaches and further aggravation of your symptoms. If you don't suffer allergy symptoms, please just know you probably need to drink more water, especially as the weather is warming and you'll be sweating more of it out soon. Have I mentioned that you should be drinking more water? Yes. Cool.  Thank you.

I hope you and your families are well, vaccinated and enjoying this beautiful weather as best you can. I am now fully vaccinated and so ready to see your lovely smile and share a hug! Come see me for a facial, or perhaps we'll run into each other at Moondrop Herbals!

Take care of you, yeah?
